Edward David Summers, 93, of Lakeland, Fla., and formerly of Warsaw, died at 5:55 p.m. Dec. 6, 2009, in Palm Terrace Hospice House, Lakeland.

He was born June 12, 1916, in Rochester, to Alva and Esther E. Rugg Summers. On June 12, 1938, in Warsaw, he married Mary M. Campbell, who died Oct. 19, 1982. On Dec. 10, 1983, in Warsaw, he married Bernice Weaver, who survives in Ohio.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army July 23, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, and served in World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes Ground Combat. Sgt. Edward D. Summers was honorably discharged Oct. 21, 1945, in Camp Atterbury. He moved to Lakeland from Warsaw 25 years ago. In his earlier years he was an auto mechanic; then a foreman with Little Crow Foods for many years; and in his later years he installed doors for Champion Overhead Door Co., Warsaw. He was a 1936 graduate of Atwood High School and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, for 50 years where he was very active.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judy (and spouse John) Weckerly, Georgetown, Texas, and Mareda Summers, Lakeland; a grandson, Edward David Weckerly, Austin, Texas; and a sister, Jeanette Heath, Atwood. He was preceded in death by a grandson, John E. Weckerly II, who died Dec. 26, 1970, and a brother, Ray Summers, who died Aug. 18, 1987.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Andy Martin of Trinity United Methodist Church. Warsaw. Military honors will be by members of Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood.

Calling is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
