Edward Carten, 80, of Warsaw,  died at 12:35 p.m. July 31, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Midlothian, Ill., to Thomas Francis and Lillie May Dickeuse Carten. On Sept. 13, 1958, in Midlothian, he married Frances Swanson, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Kittywake. He worked at Sears & Roebuck, retiring in 1993 after 40 years. He moved to Warsaw in 1999. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Southshore Country Club. He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. He was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster, and St. Martin de Porres Parish, Syracuse.

Also surviving are a son, Daniel (and spouse Lyn) Carten; a daughter, Cathy (and spouse Ted) Kramer; six grandchildren: Scott Kramer, Tiffany and Jenna Miller and Danielle, Kendall and Cassidy Carten; and two great-grandchildren, Damian and Mia. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Syracuse, with Father Richard Hire officiating, and with military honors by members of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. Burial will be at a later date.

Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
