Education Town Hall Meeting Set For Friday

Posted

Area residents with concerns over school funding in Indiana will have a chance to talk directly with their state legislators March 28 at a town hall meeting.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lakeview Middle School auditorium, the meeting will feature State Sen. Kent Adams and State Rep. Dave Wolkins. The public is invited.

The only topic of the town hall meeting will be school funding, said Terry Sims, teacher at Madison Elementary and president of Warsaw Community Education Association. Sims organized the town hall meeting.

"We really feel like this gives the teachers and the public a chance to talk to the people who are making the decisions," Sims said. "Our concern is long-term, too. We already know the things that have happened here are the tip of the iceberg."

The moderator of the meeting will be Harvey Miller, former general manager of WRSW. The format, Sims said, will start with questions from the three meeting sponsors - WCEA, Warsaw Community High School student council and Warsaw Community Schools - and then questions and comments from the audience.

"A lot of those people who complain at school board meetings need to come to this," Sims said. "I think everybody wants the same thing - it's just how you get there."
