PES Third-Graders Love To Swim The third-grade students at Pierceton Elementary School are enjoying their swimming lessons at the Columbia City YMCA. They get to swim six times this fall, going every Tuesday morning. During their time at the Y, they swim for 45 minutes and participate in a safety lesson, a swimming lesson in groups based on their swimming abilities, and have some free time to play in the water and practice their skills. While the other classes swim they also get anti-bullying lessons from their classroom teacher and a chance to walk on the walking trail or go to the park. The students and teachers thank the staff at the YMCA for allowing them the opportunity to come and learn these lifesaving skills while having a wonderful time. Pictured (at right) are some of the students learning new skills during their swimming lesson.

Annual Boy Scout Popcorn Sale Kicks Off Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are starting to go door-to-door and sell Trail’s End popcorn in front of local stores to fund their Scouting activities. Many packs, troops and crews rely on their annual popcorn sales to support their activities – like the popular Pinewood Derby and Scout camp – throughout the entire year. The sale also allows individual Scouts to earn prizes and scholarship money for college. Trail’s End fans will find Scouts selling all of their favorites, including microwave popcorn in Butter Light and Unbelievable Butter flavors, as well as signature snacks like Caramel Corn, Caramel Corn with Nuts, Double Caramel Crunch, Chocolatey Triple Delight, and White Chocolatey pretzels. Specialty collections include Chocolate Lovers, Cheese Lovers and Sweet & Savory. Customers can donate a gift of popcorn for U.S. troops stationed all over the world and their families. Many businesses use the specialty collections for employee incentive and holiday gifts. Online purchases at trails-end.com support local Scouting when customers enter their zip code. Trail’s End popcorn, exclusively sold through the Boy Scouts of America, is produced by Weaver Popcorn Company Inc., one of the largest producers and manufacturers of popcorn products in the world. For Trail’s End popcorn sold door-to-door, in front of stores, online, as a Military Donation and as gifts, an average of 70 percent of all popcorn sales go directly to support local Scouting. For more information, contact Mike Skeens, Lincolnway district executive, at 800-BSA-AWAC.
