Schools Get Nutrition Awards CROWN POINT (AP) — Nine schools in a northwestern Indiana district will receive nutrition awards from the federal government for meeting high standards in nutrition and physical activity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service will present nine schools in the Crown Point Community School Corporation with the Healthier U.S. School Challenge Silver Award on Tuesday. The healthier school challenge is a national award program that recognizes schools that have high participation in school meals programs and provide students with nutrition education and physical fitness opportunities. A USDA spokeswoman says the Crown Point schools are the first schools in the state of Indiana since 2006 to get the award.
