Mishler Welcomes Local Students To Statehouse INDIANAPOLIS – State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Bremen) recently welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse, where they served as Senate pages: – Madison Pyke, Elise Rollins, and Emily Sheets, all of Napanee and NorthWood High School students. Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing some debates from the chamber floor and interacting with their state senators. “The page program is a really great experience for students,” Mishler said. “One of my first experiences learning about state government was when I paged as a student. It’s a great way to find out how government works on a day-to-day basis.” Students in grades six through 12 can participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 4. Local Students Serve As Pages Under Kubacki INDIANAPOLIS – The following students recently served as Indiana House pages during the 2013 session of the Indiana General Assembly for State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki. Those students included Luis Cervantes, 18, senior, Warsaw; Jessenia Ramos, 17, junior, Winona Lake; Inovana Cervantes, 17, junior, Warsaw; Cesar Bautista, 19, senior, Warsaw; Ismael Calderon, 16, junior, Warsaw; Sandra Granda, 17, junior, Warsaw; Daniel Rico, 18, senior, Warsaw; Jeanette Sanchez, 18, senior, Leesburg; Mcoussu Rico, 18, senior, Warsaw; and Carlos Ramirez, 17, senior, Warsaw. Al the students attend Warsaw Community High School. The Indiana House of Representatives offers an opportunity for students between the ages of 13 and 18 to visit the Statehouse and experience a full day of legislative activity. Pages are able to see how the state legislature works firsthand in a behind-the-scenes tour. They will get to work alongside legislators, legislative assistants and interns. On session days, pages experience how a bill becomes a law as they watch legislators on the House floor debate issues. Students also have the chance to tour the statehouse, see where the governor works and observe floor sessions of the House, Senate and Supreme Court chambers. The Indiana House Page Program is an educational way for students to gain a better understanding of the lawmaking process by meeting their state representative and witnessing how laws are made firsthand. Warstler, Wright Make Dean’s List AZUSA, Calif. – Several local residents made the academic Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. These students are honored for a fall 2012 grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They are joined by 1,698 students receiving the same honor. Earning the honor were Heidi L. Warstler, Syracuse, a theater arts major, and Whitney K. Wright, Syracuse, an English major.
