AKRON - Edna Mae Shewman, 91, of 836 E. Walnut St., Akron, died at 11:15 a.m. May 6, 2007, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

She was born May 3, 1916, on the family farm near North Manchester, in Wabash County, to Ray and Hazel Miller Butterbaugh. On July 1, 1936, at the family farm in North Manchester, she married Ralph E. Shewman, who died Jan. 11, 2000.

A homemaker, she was the bookkeeper at South End Motors Ford dealership, Akron, from 1945-89, which she and her husband co-owned. She co-owned the B-K Root Beer stand on the south end of Akron for more than 12 years. In earlier years, she and her husband had a dairy farm. She was a 1935 Laketon High School graduate and a member of Akron Church of the Brethren for more than 60 years, where she was treasurer for many years and secretary of the women's organization. She was a former member of Akron Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed being outdoors and being with her family and taking care of her flowers.

Surviving are three sons, Con (and wife Sherri) and Harold (and wife Janice) Shewman, both of Akron, and Royce (and wife Sally) Shewman, Muncie; a daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Shewman, Akron; a sister, Mrs. Eldon (Marianne) Fruitt, North Manchester; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Shewman of July 25, 2006; two sisters, Eileen Blocker and Cleo Wagner; and three brothers, Bob, Don and Leon Butterbaugh.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Akron Church of the Brethren, 212 S. Maple St., with Pastors David Hendry and Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
