MENTONE - Edna Elizabeth Pittman Nellans, 95, formerly of Crystal Lake, south of Atwood, died at 2:50 p.m. April 25, 2008, in Mason Health & Rehab, Warsaw.

She was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Marshall County, to William Elias and Nellie Ann Sprague Pittman. On Nov. 14, 1937, she married Elery Van Nellans, who died April 25, 1981.

She was a registered nurse and volunteered to take blood pressure at the Mentone nutrition site until recently. She was a cancer survivor. She was a gold star mother with the American Legion Auxiliary, Mentone, and attended Aldergate United Methodist Church, Atwood. She was the first Our Lady of Kosciusko in 1998. She lived most of her adult life south of Atwood at Crystal Lake, where she and her husband operated an apple orchard for years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mardene Kay (and spouse Fred) Mellott, Bourbon, and Madonna Sue (and spouse Steve) Creighton and Nanette (and spouse John) Clark, both of Warsaw; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Maxine (and spouse Orie) Vandermark, Lake Placid, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother, a grandson and a son, Air Force Major William Lee Nellans (MIA-Vietnam).

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Aldergate United Methodist Church, Atwood, with Pastor Michael Lawson officiating. Burial will be private in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

King Memorial Home, Mentone, is in charge of arrangements.
