Editor, Times-Union:

I have been a subscriber to the Times-Union for over 50 years. I know that it is a Republican newspaper, but it is all we have in this county. However, I have been made very sad to think that it has sunk to new lows in what you print these days.

Local news is fine. I try to keep up on things locally. I read the paper from front to back and check out the news on the front page and then go straight to the editorial page. If lies and innuendo were outlawed like pornography, much of your editorial content and commentators like Ann Coulter would land someone in jail. I can't remember one time that Ann Coulter, the Wicked Witch of the Press, has said one thing positive. She must lead a horrible life, but she doesn't deserve our support.

Your editorial cartoon in the Thursday paper is an example, but it also has another side. If, as the cartoon shows, we are treating our prisoners too easily, the opposite of that is that we should torture them. Is that what you wanted to say?

After all these years of being a loyal subscriber, I am seriously considering dropping my subscription. Whether or not I do, depends on whether or not your taste in columnists and editorial content becomes more rational. I'm not asking the Times-Union to become a liberal paper. I just want it to be more fair in its editorial content and stop catering to the extremist, nihilistic, so-called conservatives in this area.
