MENTONE - Edith May Walters, 90, of 4704 S. CR 1300W, Mentone, went peacefully to rejoice in the Lord with her husband at 10:10 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009, in the emergency room at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She was born May 3, 1919, in Kosciusko County, to Casel and Audrea Zolman Whetstone. On April 16, 1938, she married Harold H. Walters, who passed April 24, 1974.
She was a homemaker and worked at Teel's Restaurant for many years and most recently working at Richard's Restaurant, Warsaw, where she took care of the salad bar and enjoyed serving people. She graduated from Mentone High School in 1937. She was a member of Talma United Methodist Church for 62 years as well as the Talma Home Educational Club. She loved to cook for people, being a seamstress, gardening and tending to her animals, especially her cats.
Surviving are a son, Stephen L. Walters, Mentone; two granddaughters, Stephanie Olson and Gina (and spouse Jason) Slone, all of Warsaw; a grandson, Rodney (and spouse Mary) Walters, Mishawaka; and four great-grandchildren: Brooke Bri-Ann, Rodney Cameron and Tabitha Jade Walters and Patrick Donald Olson; two sisters, Mary Emmeline Hoffman, Winona Lake, and Geneva Marie (and spouse Don) Emmons, Sammamish, Wash.; and a brother, Leon Willis (and spouse Ruth) Whetstone, Grand Rapids, Mich. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Boyd Whetstone; a sister, Delores June Whestone; and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Walters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Revs. Mike Beezley and Will Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 pm. Thursday at the funeral home.
