NAPPANEE - Edith L. Miller, 96, formerly of Nappanee and Mishawaka, died at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 24, 2007, in Lakeland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Milford, where she resided.

She was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Royal Center, to James Edward and Jennie Susan Burgess King. On April 5, 1930, she married John Smelser, who died May 23, 1968. On Sept. 15, 1973, in Mishawaka, she married Daniel A. Miller, who died Oct. 13, 1998.

She attended Royal Center Schools and was a homemaker. She attended Nappanee United Methodist Church and was a former member of Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka.

Surviving are two sons, James Smelser, Winona Lake, and John Smelser, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Mary) Miller, Nappanee; two stepsons, Donald and Jack Miller, both of Nappanee; two stepdaughters, Mrs. William (Karen) Plummer, Northport, Fla., and Mrs. Douglas (Diane) Frazer, Leesburg; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jennie Mae Pufahl, Royal Center. She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.

The family will gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, to go in procession to Union Center Cemetery for a graveside service with the Rev. Terry Tyler officiating.
