Edith Ina Konkle, 89, Claypool, passed away at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 8, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Kosciusko County, to William and Viola Vore Moore. On Aug. 31, 1943, in Warsaw, she married Melvin Konkle while he was on leave from the United States Army Corps. He survives in Claypool. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, she was a homemaker and had several occupations, including a position at General Electric Corporation, Fort Wayne, during WWII, a waitress at the Steer Inn, Silver Lake, and a receptionist for Dr. Joseph Orr, D.C., Warsaw. She was a member of the Claypool United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many church functions, the Order of the Eastern Star 88, Warsaw, and was an honorary member of and volunteer at the Claypool Lions Club. She served as a volunteer with her husband’s Masonic and Mizpah Shrine organizations. In a recent article celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, she was quoted as saying, “It has been important to keep God in the center of our marriage.” Also surviving are two sons: Dan (and spouse Clara) Konkle, Heber Springs, Arkansas., and Gale (and spouse Nancy) Konkle, Logansport; eight grandchildren: Jonathon, David, Michael, Douglas, Brad, Eric and Joel Konkle and Carey Waters; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a son, George, in 1986; two sisters, Helen Kinch and Nellie Wilkerson; and a brother, Lloyd Moore. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Michael Settles of the Claypool United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
