Edington hired at Wawasee

SYRACUSE - Dr. Thomas R. Edington will take over duties as Wawasee School's new superintendent on Feb. 1.

He will serve as interim superintendent through January. Dr. Richard Kline, currently serving as interim superintendent, will stay in that position until Dec. 31. Kline replaced Superintendent Dr. Mark Stock, who left to pursue another job."They felt like he was the best man to lead the corporation at this time," said Kline of why the school board unanimously voted to approve Edington as superintendent at a special meeting Tuesday.

Edington currently is the superintendent at Richland Bean Blossom Community Schools, Ellettsville, Ind. He has served there since 2005.

Prior to that, Edington was the superintendent at North Miami Community Schools, Denver, Ind., from 1996-2005. He was the principal at Huntington County Community Schools from 1986-1996. At Northern Wells Community Schools, Ossian, he was a teacher from 1979-1986; and was a teacher at Mt. Pleasant Township Community Schools, Yorktown, from 1975-1979.

Edington will receive a salary of $107,000 per year, according to Kline.

Edington received his doctorate in educational administration in 1996 from Indiana State University, Terre Haute. In 1992, he received his educational specialist in administration degree from University of South Mississippi Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He earned his principal certification in 1985 from Ball State University, his master's degree in elementary education from Ball State in 1978, and his bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1975 from Ball State.

He served as the board president for United Way of Monroe County, and was a member of Monroe County Rural Advisory Board, Bloomington Rotary Club, Bloomington Teacher's Warehouse board, Monroe County Community Corrections board, St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and Edgewood Dollars for Scholars board.

Professionally, he was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, West Central Indiana Education Service Center board, Hoosier Hills Special Services Cooperative board, South Central Indiana School Study Council, Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, Indiana School Executive Leadership Academy and Ivy Tech Community College Board, Bloomington.

Edington and his wife, Michelle, have two children. One child is in elementary school, the other is a middle school student.
