Recently, the Edgewood Middle School's Academic Super Bowl teams traveled to an area competition and returned with the highest overall score of the schools represented.

Each subject area team then participated in a statewide competition based on their scores. Four teams of Edgewood students, including interdisciplinary, science, English and math, placed in the top 10, class two.

The Edgewood math team, coached by Lorinda Kline, took first locally with 22 points out of 25. Based on this score, they will receive first-place medals and a plaque as the state champions. The champion math team included Grace Bagshaw, Brock Davis, Daniel Hamman, Ajay Panicker and Emily Umbaugh.

The English team, including Kristin Allen, Daniel Hamman, Jake Kolton, Lauryn Steffe and Emily Sumner, scored 21 out of 25 and took first place at the area meet. The English squad, coached by Kimberly Keyes, represented Edgewood in a three-way tie for state champion, but will be awarded third-place medals and a plaque based on the first tiebreaker.

Edgewood's social studies team, coached by Ben Schroeder, ranked 19th statewide; the science team, coached by Aaron Wolfe, ranked sixth statewide; and the interdisciplinary team ranked seventh statewide.

The social studies team included Kevin King, Jeremy Meadows, Kyle Quick, Zack Rooker and Shannon Sterling. At the area meet, they won first place for class 2 with a score of 16.

The science team included Erika Jansen, Kevin King, Jeremy Meadows, Ajay Panicker and Kelli Singrey. They scored 21 out of 25, tying for first locally but losing the ribbon on a tiebreaker.
