Edgewood Takes 2nd In Math Competition

HUNTINGTON - On April 22, Huntington University held its annual Middle Grades Math Competition.

The competition was held in Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the university's campus. There were 19 teams comprised of a total of 159 sixth- through ninth-grade participants. This is the largest math competition that Huntington University has hosted.The students competed in three rounds: a multiple-choice test, an individual quick-answer round and a team round. Scores were tallied for each team and each individual.

Local middle schools competing were: Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools, Warsaw, and Milford School.

Northridge Middle School came in first place with 745 total points. Edgewood Middle School came in second with 655 points, and Concord Junior High School came in third with 630.

This is the eighth year for the semiannual competition. The contest is coordinated by Huntington University junior Joshua Fitzgerald, a mathematics education major from New Haven, with supervision and assistance from Dr. Bobbi Buchholz and Dr. Jeff Lehman.
