NORTH MANCHESTER – Edgar C. “Ed” Butterbaugh, 83, of North Manchester, died at 4:50 p.m. April 12, 2011, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
He was born June 4, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., to  D. Wright and Cleta Mae Stoneburner Butterbaugh. On Aug. 2, 1952, he married E. Joann Marks, who survives.
He began his employment with Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) in 1951 in the Chicago Office. In 1962, he started an office for Ernst & Ernst in Tucson, Ariz. He was made a partner in 1965 and remained in charge of the Tucson office until his retirement in 1987. He was a members of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. He graduated from Oak Park (Ill.) High School, Manchester College and did graduate work in accounting at Northwestern University. He passed the CPA exam in 1954. While in Tucson, he was active in many business and community organizations. He was honored as Tucson Man of the Year in 1985. He served more than 20 years on the board of trustees. He also served as interim president for the 1993-94 academic year. In recognition of his service to the college, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Butterbaugh, San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Jon (and spouse Debbie) Butterbaugh, Alexandria, Va.; two daughters, Janet (and spouse David) Weber, Harrisburg, Pa., and Jane Schmidt, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Doris (and spouse Dick) Dehler, Orlando, Fla.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Borgmann and Joan Deeter officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at  Timbercrest Chapel.
