I support KDI and Max Courtney in their quest to establish a plan for economic development in Warsaw and Kosciusko County. I've talked to business owners who are constantly called upon to move or expand their businesses to other Indiana counties. The time to act upon this is now.
On Monday Night, I went before the Warsaw City Council and told them I'm planning on asking for a special appropriation of $50,000 to help establish a small business incubator. The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years, and we can no longer hope businesses will come to Warsaw and Kosciusko County.
We need to look forward 20 years in the future and have a plan for future growth. The opportunity to do this is now. In January, Warsaw received an extra disbursement from the state of over $1 million. I know the county also received a large disbursement. We must use this money wisely and work on improving the employment opportunities in Warsaw and Kosciusko County.
I have friends that live in Elkhart and Kokomo. We have all watched as the auto companies and trailer factories have closed and moved from these communities. If we don't get something started now this could happen to our community.
We need more good paying jobs in Warsaw and Kosciusko County. The way to get new jobs is through sound economic development. We have the perfect opportunity to help get this done now.
