Staff Report-
COLUMBIA CITY – Easterseals Passages, a nonprofit in Columbia City serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will hold its #GiveMeaning 5K/10K April 10.
Presented by the local Columbia City McDonald's, the race will be held at Morsches Park in Columbia City. Participants also have the option to complete the race virtually.
Passages Inc. recently merged with Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana, becoming Easterseals Passages. This will be the first event held in support of the organization since the merger.
"We are excited to host our very first event as Easterseals Passages with the GiveMeaning 5K/10K event," Jason Meyer, executive director, said. "This event kicks off race season and is an awesome way to support one of the most vulnerable populations in Whitley County."
All proceeds from this event remain in Whitley County, helping serve the individuals at Easterseals Passages. Last year, the event raised just over $11,000, according to a news release. The fundraising goal for this year's event is $13,000.
The Columbia City McDonald's is the lead sponsor of this year's event. It will offer breakfast items and McDonald's coffee to all participants.
"McDonald's is proud to partner with Passages to bring this event to our local community. The values and mission statement of Passages aligns with the Golden Arches rule of giving back," said Brian Hedrick, McCoOp Operator for the Columbia City McDonald's, said.
According to Race Director Amy Johns, the first-place overall male and female finisher for each race will receive a cash prize. There will also be first-place and second-place prizes in each age category. This event has been named the Fort Wayne Running Club's points series race for the month of April.
