NAPPANEE – Earl M. Svendsen, 79, of 421 Heather Blvd., Nappanee, died at 7:10 p.m. April 30, 2011, in Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Morris, Ill., to Holger and Edna Bryant Svendsen. On Dec. 10, 1953, he married Aiko Moriyama, who died May 16, 2009.
Living in Nappanee for more than 20 years, he repaired machine presses and had worked at Continental Can, Elwood and Portage, and Gaska Tape, Elkhart. He was a member of Nappanee American Legion; Moose Lodge, Chesterton; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Goshen.
Surviving are a daughter, Lumi (and spouse Devoe) Hoffer, New Paris; a son, John Thomas Svendsen, Pensacola, Fla.; a granddaughter; two grandsons; and a brother, Gordon (and spouse Imogene) Svendsen, Monroe, Mich. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown officiating, assisted by Connie Swihart. There will be cremation.
Calling is an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of arrangements.
