MENTONE - E. Joan Davis, 83, of 5623 W. CR 600W, (Burket) Claypool, died at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14, 2008, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Fort Wayne, to Floyd and Hazel Hire Study. On March 16, 1947, in Fort Wayne, she married Richard L. "Dutch" Davis, who survives.

For 78 years of her life she lived in the Akron, Beaver Dam and Burket communities. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at ACE Hardware Flower Shop, Warsaw, for 12 years. She was a 1942 Beaver Dam High School graduate and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Post 49 Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge, all in Warsaw.

Also surviving are two daughters, Rainelle (and spouse Terry) Dowell, Mentone, and Leslie (and spouse Charles) Jarvis, Tippecanoe; a son, Jeff Davis, Burket; six grandchildren: Skip, Neal, Keri, Justin, Jason and Michelle; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jan (and spouse Duane) Ankenbruck, Fort Wayne, and Linda (and spouse Harrison) Martin, Hartsville, S.C.; and a brother, Allen Study, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Davis; three sisters: June Tully, Marjorie Sausaman and Francy Taylor; a brother, Dick Study; and her parents.

A family graveside service will be Tuesday at Palestine Cemetery with Paige Martin speaking.

No calling is planned.

King Memorial Home, Mentone, is in charge of arrangements.
