NAPPANEE - E. Berniece Berger, 90, of Nappanee, died at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 1, 2009, in LuAnn Nursing Home, after a short illness.

She was born July 17, 1918, in Locke Township, to Joseph B. and Grace Letherman Fisher. On Dec. 25, 1940, in Elkhart County, she married M. Howard Berger, who died Nov. 27, 2007.

She was a lifetime area resident. She was a graduate of Madison Township High School. She had worked at Superior Corp. and McDonalds, Nappanee. She was a former member of the Lady Lions and a member of the Get Together Club and Nappanee United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four daughters: Ann (and spouse Kenneth) Heckaman, Nappanee; Lynn Whittenberger and Margaret Bell, both of Matteson, Ill.; and Janice (and spouse James) Fackler, Syracuse; two sons, Steven (and spouse Connie) Berger, Wallingford, Vt.; and William Berger, Foraker; a brother, Wendell Fisher, Nappanee; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. David Harrold and the Rev. Jeff Fackler officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.

Calling is one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
