Concerned with area graduation rates hovering around 75 to 82 percent, a group of community and school officials formed a Dropout Prevention Committee in 2009.
The committee developed objectives to impact local dropout rates. At the high schools, the committee plans to put graduation coaches in place. A mentoring program at the elementary and middle school levels will encourage younger students to stay in school.
This morning, the committee recognized sponsors of the program and graduation coaches from the three participating Kosciusko County high schools.
Coaches are David Bailey, Warsaw Community High School; Steve Henn, WCHS; Ben Rogers, Tippecanoe Valley High School; Jeff Phillips, Wawasee High School; Amanda Scroggs, WCHS; and Anne Rackley, WHS; and Alissa Trippiedi, TVHS.
Sponsors are Pia Thystrup, Shoop Sports & Youth Foundation; Doris Lemert, Kosciusko REMC; Patricia Coy, United Way; Zoe Howard, Kosciusko County Community Foundation Grant Committee; and Suzie Light, Kosciusko County Community Foundation. Dekko and Biomet also are sponsors.
