With a blood alcohol level of almost seven times the legal limit, Braden Goodbody, 35, Elkhart, most definitely was drunk at the time of two accidents he allegedly caused Oct. 28.

Blood tests, interpreted by Quest Diagnostic Laboratory, show that Goodbody had a blood alcohol level of .54. The legal limit, for an adult, is .08.

Police also said that an open, nearly empty bottle of gin was found in his vehicle.

Goodbody was the driver of a sport utility vehicle that rear-ended a truck on CR 200S, Warsaw, and then fled the scene. Moments later, he lost control of the SUV and flipped the vehicle near the intersection of Ind. 15 and Administrative Drive, Warsaw.

He was taken to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, and admitted in critical condition. He has since been released.

Charges of driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, are pending against him.
