PIERCETON – A semi tractor-trailer flipped onto its side on U.S. 30 in Pierceton early Saturday morning after a deer jumped out in front of the vehicle. The driver of the semi was uninjured. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department crash report, the driver, Jeremy R. Grant, 28, Valparaiso, was traveling east on U.S. 30 carrying more than 42,000 pounds of cargo when a deer jumped out in front of his semi. Grant said he jerked the wheel slightly to the left and the trailer began to jackknife. His vehicle then ran off the roadway to the north, crossing over a turnaround and colliding with a speed limit sign. The trailer came to rest on its side. All of the cargo, the tractor and the trailer were taken to a Warsaw body shop. Damage was estimated to be more than $100,000.
