Isabelle Ruoff, 79, of Fort Wayne, was driving on Levi Lee Road around 4:30 p.m. Thursday before she reportedly pulled out in front of a Warsaw Community Schools bus carrying the freshman football team that was northbound on Ind. 15.
Ruoff was driving a 1992 Mercury Topaz and stopped at Ind. 15, but she failed to yield to the 2005 school bus.
Ruoff was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by the Lutheran Air Ambulance. Initially, she was listed in critical condition but was upgraded to serious condition today.
One student on the bus complained of pain and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The driver of the bus, Kenneth Hampton, 73, Warsaw, was not injured in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff's department was assisted at the scene by Plain Township Fire Department, Plain Township EMS, Warsaw Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS and Lutheran Air Ambulance.
