The driver of the Nissan that went up in flames Thursday afternoon that killed a mother and daughter has been identified through dental records.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis said an autopsy performed at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center confirmed the driver as Han Nguyen Le, 36, of Warsaw.
Emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Old Road 30, east of Ind. 13, Thursday afternoon. Deputies with KCSO arrived within minutes of the initial call and discovered a Nissan Maxima fully engulfed in flames and two unresponsive females inside a Kia Sportage.
The preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the eastbound Maxima was passing an eastbound motorcycle and collided head-on with a westbound Kia Sportage, driven by Teressa Johnson, in the westbound lane.
The collision caused significant front-end damage to both vehicles, entrapping all occupants. According to witnesses at the scene, the Maxima was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash, according to Francis.
The KCSO Fatal Team responded and processed the scene using laser scanner and drone technology and pronounced Johnson and her front-seat passenger daughter, Amanda Johnson, dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, Francis said.
