Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched at 5:51 a.m. today to a 911 call of a vehicle that had collided with a horse. Officers arrived and located the driver, Isaac X. Rosentreter, 19, Bremen, inside his 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse, in serious condition. Rosentreter was transported by Nappanee EMS to the Community Hospital of Bremen with facial injuries and other abrasions, according to a press release from KCSD. Officers stated that Rosentreter had been driving east on CR 1350N, near the intersection of CR 1025W, when a horse suddenly entered the roadway. Rosentreter reportedly attempted to brake but was unable to avoid striking the animal, which died upon impact. Officers stated that the horse belonged to James Bontrager, Nappanee, and had appeared to have pushed a watering trough to the side, allowing it to exit the fence area.
