Michael Wiggins, the driver of a car involved in an Aug. 4, 2002, car accident that killed Terry L. Wilson, 41, Fort Wayne, was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court 3, Monday.

In November, he was found guilty on charges of driving while intoxicated causing death and driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

Wiggins, 22, of 35EMS W26 Lane, North Webster, tested positive for marijuana following the accident that killed Wilson and injured his 11-year-old son, Dennis Wilson.

Due to a case heavy with aggravating factors, Wiggins was given the maximum sentences allowed by law. The DWI causing death charge, a Class C felony, carries a maximum prison sentence of eight years, to which Wiggins was sentenced.

For the DWI causing serious bodily injury, a Class D felony, Wiggins was sentenced to three years in prison, also the maximum.

The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Included in his sentence are orders to pay a $200 drug interdiction fee, restitution, court costs and his driver's license suspended five years. He also was ordered to undergo weekly drug testing.
