Posted

Failing to stop for a stop sign resulted in the death of a North Manchester man Wednesday night.

Leopold Marks, 53, of South Market Street, North Manchester, was pronounced dead at Kosciusko Community Hospital shortly after the 8:42 p.m. accident at the intersection of Ind. 15 and CR 200S, south of Warsaw. Marks, who suffered massive chest injuries, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated from the wreckage. Emergency personnel performed CPR while en route to the hospital in an effort to save Marks' life.

Witnesses to the accident told police that Marks was eastbound on CR 200S when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Ind. 15 and pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by Amy Pfeiffer, 22, of West Boston Street, Syracuse. Pfeiffer was northbound on Ind. 15 and was unable to avoid the collision. She complained of neck and head pain and a passenger in Pfeiffer's vehicle, Eric Pfeiffer, 24, of West Boston Street, Syracuse, complained of knee pain. Both were treated at KCH and released.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted in the accident investigation by Warsaw police and fire departments, Indiana State Police, Kosciusko County coroner and Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service. The accident remains under investigation.
