By unanimous decision, the Kosciusko County Drainage Board approved two setback variances Thursday.
First, Jason Schwartz wanted a variance to have a permanent structure within 50 feet of a tile of the Enoch Watkins Drain. Ordinances require at least a 75-foot setback. Schwartz' building will be used for bicycle sales and repair, if the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals approves the use. The property is along Ind. 19, south of Nappanee.
Dick Kemper, county surveyor, said he could not see any problem approving the variance at 50 feet off the tile.
The other variance was sought by Lester and Marie Yoder to place a new home and septic system within 45 feet of a tile of the Danner Drain. The property is on CR 1100W.
Kemper also said he didn't have a problem with the Yoders' request for a 45-foot setback from the center line of the tile.
Members of the drainage board are county commissioner Ron Truex, Donald Goon, Dorris Harrold, Maurice McDaniel and Eldon Watkins. They meet at 9 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month in the county courthouse, Warsaw. The next drainage board meeting is Nov. 18.
