Thursday, the Kosciusko County Drainage Board approved a setback variance and permission for a wetland restoration project.
Previously, the board granted a 25-foot setback variance for the south side of Beyer Brady Ditch near Kosciusko Community Hospital along Parker Street. The variance approved Thursday is to reduce that setback to 20 feet for five lots along the south side in Meadowbrook Addition.
County surveyor Dick Kemper recommended the setback variance petition by Richard Delagrange and attorney Chris Kehler be approved at 20 feet from the top of the bank for all five lot owners on the condition that signatures from all property owners be properly received.
Sam St. Clair of the NRSC Nature Conservancy presented the request for the wetland restoration project for Bill Thomas.
St. Clair said all people affected by the project are in agreement with it. The project is to store the Pole Run Ditch area back to wetland and maintain the water elevation at 790 feet. The current elevation is approximately 788.7 feet.
Kemper said no property owners' drainage will be adversely affected. All landowners are in favor of it and he recommended it be approved.
