Dr. Russell L. Heyde, 81, of 3250 E. Wilcox Road, Warsaw, and a dentist in Warsaw for more than 50 years, passed away Aug. 26, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born April 4, 1929, in Kosciusko County, to Forest and Frances Knox Heyde. On Sept. 4, 1929, in Rochester, he married Patricia Leckrone, who survives.

He was a former resident of Rochester, and graduated from Rochester High School in 1947. He continued his studies and graduated in 1951 from Indiana University, and was a 1955 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He was a member and past president of the Kosciusko County Dental Association; had been an alternate delegate to several of the Indiana Dental Association's state conventions; and served on various committees for the North Central Indiana Dental Association. He was a volunteer dentist at the Matthew 25 Clinic, Fort Wayne. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. He served on the Warsaw City Council and the city plan commission. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where he served as president of the board of trustees and was a member and president of its Endowment Trust Board. He was a delegate to several United Methodist Church's state conventions and participated in dental mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. He was a member of the Warsaw School Board for 8-1/2 years and served as president; was the first president of the Crime Stoppers program in Kosciusko County; member and past president of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce; a longtime member of Warsaw Rotary and Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne, where he was a member of its executive board and its mini-bike patrol. He was a member and president of the horse patrol unit, and a longtime executive director of the annual Shrine Horse Show, and served as chairman of the club's finance committee, and member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge 73, F&AM.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Heyde; four children, Rebecca A. (and spouse Edgar) Schaefer, Fort Wayne; Lee L. (and spouse Dianne) Heyde, Jane L. (and spouse Dan) Coplen and Ann M. (and spouse John) Harman, all of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Cristi L. Heyde, Greenwood; and two brothers, Jay Heyde and James Heyde, both of Rochester. He was preceded in death a son, Bruce L. Heyde; a nephew, David Sparks; and his parents.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with the Revs. Andy Martin and Lamar Imes officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic ceremony will be at 12:30 p.m. by members of Mason Lodge 73 and F&AM.
