NORTH MANCHESTER - Dr. Larry D. Sharpless, 71, of North Manchester, died at 2:48 a.m. April 4, 2009, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Willard, Ohio, to Willard and Stella Lynch Sharpless. On Aug. 1, 1958, he married Joyce Coppler, who survives.

He was a Presbyterian minister for 27 years and served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Fostoria (Ohio) High School; began his studies at Gordon College, Boston, Mass.; finished his studies at Cedarville (Ohio) College, where he received a bachelor's degree in ministry; earned a master's degree from Wheaton (Ill.) College in 1968; and received his doctorate degree from Trinity Seminary, Chicago, Ill., in 1987. He served churches in Horse Shoe, N.C., for five years; Detroit, Mich., for 18 years; and First Presbyterian Church, Winona Lake, for three years.

Services will be at a later date.

No calling is planned.
