COLUMBIA CITY - Doyle Dean Nichols Sr., 69, of South Whitley, died at 2:26 p.m. April 12, 2008, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Columbia City, to Paul C. and Blanche L. Hively Nichols. On Jan. 22, 1972, in Warsaw, he married Molly Goodman, who survives.

He was a 1956 Larwill High School graduate and served in the U.S. Marines. He was a warehouseman at Monarch Food Service for 20 years and a construction worker and driver for Graber Construction for 13 years. He was a member of Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints, Columbia City, and a former member of Tri-Lakes Barber Shop Quartet.

Also surviving are his mother, Blanche Nichols, Columbia City; his children: Debbie (and spouse Rick) Seymour, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Annette (and spouse Jeff) Walters, Winona Lake; Sherri (and spouse Bill) Gipson, Atkins, Ark.; Darla (and spouse Chris) Briggs, Paul (and spouse Michelle) Nichols and Diana L. Nichols (and Matt Wilson), all of Columbia City; Doyle D. Jr. (and spouse Michelle) Nichols, Larwill; Regina (and spouse Michael) Hartsfield, Charles Nichols and Angie Nichols, all of South Whitley; Molly Ann Nichols, Fort Wayne; and Maria (and spouse Corey) Whelpley, Silver Lake; 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Bishop Thomas Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
