Douglas William Wrobel, of Winona Lake, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, surrounded by family while in the care of Mason Health & Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, at the age of 84.
Doug lived a full and hard-working life, marked by dedication to his family and pride in everything he did. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, humor, and love for his family. His presence, encouragement and steady support will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Doug was born on July 21, 1941, to Theodore L. and Shirley M. Wrobel. One of three children, he grew up in the area and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1959 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. After graduating, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska for a short time and completed his tour during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge, he began his career at Chrysler and started Wrobel Electric, later retiring from Warsaw’s Dalton Foundry as the environmental controls supervisor. Outside of work, Doug found joy in life's simple pleasures. Doug was married in October 1981 to Claudia Marie Landa and they were blessed with 36 years of marriage before she passed away on July 28, 2018. A 50-year resident of Kosciusko County, he loved spending time on the golf course and riding his Harley. At home, he was most content outdoors, mowing his lawn with his dog nearby. Known as a lover of coffee, Doug enjoyed years of morning fellowship and great conversations with friends at McDonald’s over a cup. For the past six years, he enjoyed the special companionship of friendship and love with Joye Martin of West Virginia.
More than anything he cherished his family, a proud and devoted father and Papa never missing an opportunity to support his grandchildren at their sporting events. He was their biggest fan. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Kevin (Michelle) Wrobel, Lithia, Fla.; Erich (Monica) Wrobel, Colorado; stepsons, David Creighton, Atlanta, Ga.; Brandon (Rachelle) Creighton, Warsaw; daughter, Kerri (Chris) Wilson, Warsaw; and stepdaughter, Tara Creighton, Winona Lake. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Jon, Tommy, Scott, Joshua, Sabastian and Christopher Wrobel; Shelly, Brady and Landon Creighton; Tristan, Preston and Reagan Wilson; as well as his brother, Mark Wrobel, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his sister, Cheryl Wrobel, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Claudia.
Doug’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Denny Wilson. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
