Dorothy Marie Bonewitz Alstedt, 86, of Warsaw, died at 9 p.m. June 26, 2011, in Greencroft Health Care, Goshen.

She was born May 3, 1925, in Griggville, Ill., to Vernon K. and Nola St. John Baker. She married the Rev. Robert Hall Bonewitz, who died in 1995. She then married John Alstedt, who died in 2010.

She had been a resident of Warsaw the past four years. She was a homemaker and had been employed as a teacher for six years, certified nurse assistant for more than 17 years, and spent many years as a pastor’s wife. She also had worked at the Times-Union newspaper as a journalist. She also graduated from Alexis High School, class of 1943. She furthered her education at Indiana Central, graduating with an associate’s degree in business and graduated from Ball State with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also was a member of Zion Fellowship of Warsaw.

Surviving are her children: Roberta K. (and spouse Steve) Anderson, Leesburg; Michael R. (and spouse Nancy) Bonewitz, Goshen; David P. (and spouse Anne) Bonewitz, Warsaw; Deborah J. (and spouse Jim) Ellis, New Paris; and Nancy E. (and spouse Ken) Miller, Bourbon; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laveta (and spouse Lyle) Kenney, Alexis, Ill., and Thelma (and spouse Don) Krantz, San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by two daughters and a granddaughter.

There will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parks Cemetery, Bourbon, with her son-in-law, Pastor Ken Miller, officiating.

Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of arrangements.
