NAPPANEE - Dorothy L. Greene, 88, of 28070 CR 24W, Elkhart, and formerly of Nappanee, died at 5:36 a.m. March 23, 2010, in her residence.

She was born July 12, 1921, in Nappanee, to John and Cora Weaver Hoover. On Dec. 20, 1941, in her parent's residence in Nappanee, she married Ralph L. Greene, who survives.

She was a lifetime area resident and a Nappanee High School graduate. She was a homemaker and prior to her marriage she worked as a dental assistant. She was a member of Grace Point Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an adult Sunday school teacher. She was a former Cub Scout den mother; chairwoman of the Blue Bird Leaders, Nappanee; and was one of the organizers of Open Door, Nappanee, where she served as secretary-treasurer and was a member for 28 years. She was active in the Nappanee community.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kathy A. (and spouse Frank), Weidner, Nappanee; a son, Thomas L. (and spouse Claudine) Greene, Western Springs, Ill.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anita (and spouse Wendell) Sheets, Bourbon. She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Point Presbyterian Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. Terry Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
