NORTH MANCHESTER – Doris S. Beck, 85, of North Manchester, died at 8 p.m. Jan. 21, 2012, in her residence.
She was born March 30, 1926, in McMinnville, Tenn., to Luther and Myrtle Patterson Smith. On Aug. 25, 1947, she married Joe L. Pence, who died Oct. 16, 1972. On Dec. 20, 1975, she married James R. Beck, who died June 9, 1993.
She was a homemaker, a lifelong livestock farmer and operated Westside Drive-In, North Manchester, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Later she was a waitress at Little Richard’s Restaurant and a bartender at Moose Lodge, both in North Manchester. She was a life member of the Women of the Moose.
Surviving are a son, Sam (and spouse Sandra) Pence, North Manchester; two daughters, Sheryl (and spouse Wayne) Hackworth and Carolyn Lambert, all of North Manchester; two brothers, Fred (and spouse Inez) Smith, Chattanooga, Tenn., and John Allen (and spouse Joan) Smith, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Whitley Cemetery, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.
No calling is planned.
