Doris Edna Saner

Doris Edna Saner, 85, of 111 Saner Drive, Akron, died at 7:54 a.m. Sept. 12, 2012, in Greenwood Meadows, where she resided for the past four months. She was born in Wabash County to George Leondus and Cleo Marie Clingaman Pottenger. On June 30, 1947, in Akron, she was married to Loyd F. Saner by the Rev. Daniel Slaybaugh. Loyd died in 2003. She grew up in North Manchester, graduating from Laketon High School in 1945 She was active in the high school band for four years playing the bass drum. She worked at Brian’s, printing bomber wires for World War II for two years and then Heckman Bindery, both in North Manchester, until she got married. She then worked at Johnson Publishing Co., Pittsburgh, Pa., where she lived while her husband attended watchmaking school. In 1948, along with her husband, she founded Saner Jewelry, which was at the current location of Lake City Bank, Akron. She was co-owner with her husband of Tic Toc Trophy Shop, which was founded in 1961 and sold in 1980, where she worked as an engraver. Along with her husband, they developed the Saner housing addition on the east side of Akron, where 26 houses three businesses have been built. She attended Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron. She had a personal ministry of sending greeting cards to people and providing food to those in need. During her life, she expressed her love and faith of Jesus Christ and how she believed in answered prayer. Through the years she and her husband had been through several health disorders and been healed. She wanted to leave this world as her last testimony and witness for God with the words of the song titled “He Touched Me”. Surviving are three children: Dennis (and spouse Neena) Saner, Mooresville; Deanna (and spouse Mike) Love, Akron; and Denise (and spouse Les) Howe, Huntington; five grandchildren: Eric (and spouse Erin) Love, Akron; Brian Love, Akron; Kevin Howe, Louisville, Ky.; Lisa Howe, Lubbock, Texas; and Matthew (and spouse Jessica), Zionsville; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Elijah, Libby and Zoey. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Pottenger, who died in 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, officiated by the Rev. Butch Troke. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
