NORTH MANCHESTER — Doris Annette Spann, 100, North Manchester, died at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center.

She was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Kosciusko County, to Ford and Lizzie Miller Landis.

Doris attended International Business College in Fort Wayne, then worked as a secretary at Keener Packing Co. and Pioneer Trouser Co.

On June 4, 1938, Doris married Leonard Spann in North Manchester.

Doris stayed home to care for her children until they were in middle school, then found work in the Sidney School office. She also worked at the Heifer Project office, Moorman’s Feed Co., Manchester College and Timbercrest Retirement Community. She was also a clerk for livestock auctions.

Doris was active in Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. She conducted Bible school and served in the children’s department and as a deaconess.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Paul) Beam, Hoagland; three grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

She was preceded by her husband, Leonard, in 1995; her son, J. Alan Spann, in 2003; and daughter-in-law JoEllen.

Doris’ hobbies included walking, reading, cross-stitch, playing cards, crossword puzzles, calligraphy, and watching the Manchester girls basketball team. She was a member of the Town and Country Club for 76 years.

Doris volunteered in the Timbercrest Gift Shop and served on two music committees.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester. Services will follow at 2 p.m.

Private burial is planned.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester.
