Editor, Times-Union: Do you text while you drive? Have you been in a car with someone who was texting and driving? Did you take the phone from them? Were you scared? Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t text and drive. First, texting while you drive can kill you. Your eyes aren’t on the road. You can easily get into a car accident. You raise your chances of death. Even if you don’t die in the accident, you can still get injuries. Second, you could save your life and others by not texting and driving. When you text and drive, you are putting your passengers and other drivers in danger, too. Keeping your hands off your phone saves you because your eyes are watching the road and not going between the road and your phone. By having both your eyes on the road you can see who’s in front, also you have both of your hands on the wheel. By having them on the wheel, you have more control over the car. Finally, if you stop your habit, you could encourage someone else to stop too. Encourage them by saying “you can do it” or “I believe in you.” You can also tell them you did it too. When they get out of the habit, tell them to encourage someone else too. When you text and drive, you might die. By not texting and driving you can stop and encourage someone else. You also save your life and others. Save your life and encourage someone else. The next time you’re tempted to text and drive, think about these things and choose life.
