Editor, Times-Union: After reading the letters about Right to Work, I felt the need to add to the debate.
I think we all realize that RTW is not about creating jobs. It’s about busting unions and creating a less beneficial working environment, meaning less money, benefits, and even job safety, in order to increase profits.
In our area several workers are represented by the steel workers. The members of these unions have worked hard for years to gain the level of pay and benefits they enjoy. However, almost all of the local workers have benefitted because of the pay scale needed to compete for good workers.
If Kubacki and Wolkins get their way and this bill passes, and the worst happens and the unions dissolve, all of the area workers could be facing cuts to wages and benefits. Then our hard working laborers will have a much harder time buying houses and cars, sending kids to college, and even supporting charities or eating out.
If that happens, we won’t need as many small stores and restaurants, car dealers or even banks. Thousands of workers in this area would be adversely affected. It is obvious Kubacki is a mouthpiece for big business and could not care less about the workers and their families.
Please, if you work in a factory and whether you belong to a union or not, let these people know you want them to preserve our hard-won rights, not take them away.
