Don't Assume

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I realize some people are having difficulty accepting Barack Obama as our commander-in-chief. It is certainly acceptable if people choose not to do that, but they should not be assuming or saying things untrue.

Some are circulating the rumor that he was not sworn in as U.S. President using the Bible. It was interesting to note that our own Times-Union Extra on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, reported on its first page of that edition: Bible Used By Lincoln, Obama Goes On View In D.C. and then goes on to speak of the "small red Bible used to swear in Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama..." I believe the Times-Union seeks to publish information that is truthful.

I am of the opinion that some people must not be able to read, are willing to accept lies as truth, or dislike taking the time to research for correct information about our president. I appreciate the Times-Union for printing stories that are true even when politically it may not agree with our president on several issues. I'm sure there will be times when printing the truth may not be complimentary to the president, but printing the truth must always be held as a public trust.

If someone hears rumors, lies or inaccurate comments from friends and others about our current president, the least they should do is to seek the truth and not perpetuate lies or circulate rumors.
