SILVER LAKE – A local soldier ministry is seeking items to send to American troops overseas. Susan Manns is the organizer for the ministry “Treasurers For Troops” done through First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County. The church does a Christmas stocking collection for deployed soldiers. Last year, 220 stockings were sent to soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Kyrgystan. Items needed for the soldier stockings are regular-size stockings from Walmart; a bag of Reese miniature cups or Hershey Kisses; Skittles; Mike and Ikes; one six-pack of marshmallow Santas, Snowmen or Reindeer; and seven-ounce bags of Combos baked snacks. People are advised to write a note of thanks to the soldier. People can either handwrite or type the note, or buy a Christmas card and write their note in it. People can feel free to tell them about your family, maybe some of your holiday traditions/memories. People are advised to put $2 in the provided envelope for shipping. Stockings may be dropped off at the First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County; Homestead’s Backyard Grille, Silver Lake; The Silver Lake Post Office; or to make reservations or to inquire about pick up, email Manns at srmanns@frontier.com or call 260-352-2678. All donated stockings must be received by Nov. 30.
