Donald William Spitler

Donald William Spitler, of Warsaw, passed away on Jan. 14, 2026, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester at the age of 89.
He was born July 28, 1936, in Camden, to Sarah Angle and Leo Spitler. Don graduated from Flora High School and Purdue University in 1958, earning degrees in pharmacy. He married Eleanor Elaine McDaniel on Sept.14, 1957, and they shared 68 years of marriage.
One of Don’s greatest passions was basketball, especially recounting the games of his youth. A proud Boilermaker and first-generation college graduate, he opened Don’s Pharmacy and became known in the community for his honesty and strong work ethic. His children and grandchildren cherish memories of the lessons he shared about education and the enjoyment of good food. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Mont Ray Spitler; daughter, Lori (John) Polakowski; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his brother, Robert Spitler. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. Don will be laid to rest at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
