Donald W. Moneyheffer, age 79, passed peacefully in his home on Aug. 29, 2026.
He was born Sept. 11, 1946, to Wayne and Ruth Bowers Moneyheffer in Goshen. He graduated from New Paris High School in 1964. A senior in high school, he met Barbara Hunsberger and later married on July 17, 1965. They had two girls, Kimberly and Deborah. Don and Barb spent their 61 years together mostly in the New Paris area, including their residence they so proudly built.
Don served as a police officer for about seven years, farmed his land, worked in carpentry and home construction, and brokered stocks. He was known for being particularly crafty as evident by his own home and furniture. He knew how to fix and solve any problem that may arise. Anyone who met him certainly learned something valuable. He was a man whose most meaningful values included loyalty, respect, and simplicity. You could always find him in a plain white T-shirt, dark blue denim jeans, and pair of Red Wing boots. He loved his family very much and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Moneyheffer Gentry; daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Baker; and granddaughter, Alicia Kay Bradford.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; and their dog, Lily; daughter Kimberly (Mike) Bradford; grandchildren: Chelsey (TJ) Gordon, Jordan (Olivia) Hochstetler, Joshua Bradford (fiancé Sofia Bellwoar) and Hannah Bradford; nephews, Tom (Linda) Love and Greg (Katie) Love; and great-grandchildren Kaylee and Baylee Gordon.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. A private funeral service officiated by Mike Overpeck will follow at 3 p.m. prior to burial at Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris. The viewing is open to anyone who may have known Don.
