         BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. — Donald Raymond Buennagel, 86, Bonita Springs, Fla., and North Webster, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. Formerly of Muncie, he had been a Bonita Springs resident for the last 30 years. 

He was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Muncie, the son of John Clifford and Wilmoth Flowers Buennagel.

Don was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Joanne Marie Bondy, on Aug. 31, 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving honorably during the Korean War. 

He was a life member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster; a member of the Moose for over 50 years; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; president of Universal Electric Co., Muncie; and served on the board of directors of Wapahani Girl Scout Council. He had a love of adventure while traveling in his motor home.

He is survived by his loving children, Jeanette Hartley (Joe Tirschek), Bonita Springs; Kathy (the late Rusty) Hartley, Bonita Springs; Dean Buennagel, Greenwood; and Nancy (Robert) McSorley, The Colony, Texas; his sister, Susan (David) Heath, North Webster and Naples, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne Bondy Buennagel, in 2005; and by his son, John Buennagel, in 1982.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs. Graveside services with military honors will follow the service at Palm Royale Cemetery, Naples.

Visitation for family and friends will take place at the funeral home from noon Tuesday until the time of the service.
