Donald Ray McDermitDonald Ray McDermit, 88, of Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at his residence.
Born on Feb. 22, 1934, in Hartford City, Don was the son of Fred and Evelyn Stewart McDermit. He was united in marriage to Judy Estep McDermit on Feb. 15, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was a graduate of Hartford City High School in 1954. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a paving superintendent at LICA Construction. Don was a 1954 Indiana All-Star Basketball team member, formerly a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, and a member of the Warsaw American Legion Post #49.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy McDermit, of Warsaw; children: Kevin (Deanna) McDermit, Jody (Robert) Kinsey; stepchildren: Tom Eherenman, Shawn (Duane) Patterson and Melanie (Jim) Rooney; 16 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by a stepson, Ted Eherenman; and one brother, Robert J. McDermit.
A visitation is planned from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26 at the Leesburg United Methodist Church. A funeral service in celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Rob Seewald officiating. Interment will follow at the Leesburg Cemetery.
