Donald R. Howard, 54, of Pierceton, died at 4:13 p.m. Feb. 13, 2009, in his residence.

He was born Feb. 28, 1954, in David, Ky., to Ashland "Hawk" and Darcus Slone Howard. On Jan. 7, 1984, he married Ann Hathaway, who survives.

Living in Kosciusko County since 1972, he was a machine operator at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Warsaw, for more than 36 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Kosciusko County Gun Club.

Also surviving are a son, Brent (and spouse Dara) Howard, Warsaw; a daughter, Heater (and spouse Brian) Sand, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Austin, Adrian and Alyson Grindle; Deacon "Hawk" Howard; and Addison Sand, all of Warsaw; five brothers: Earl (and spouse Carol) Howard, Charles (and spouse Joan) Howard and Robert L. Howard, all of Warsaw; Chalmer (and spouse Anne) Howard, Auxier, Ky.; and Jackie (and spouse Kay) Howard, David, Ky.; two sisters, Gladys Shepherd, David, Ky., and Geneva Marshall, Warsaw; in-laws: Fred and Verna Hathaway and Bill and Sonya Hathaway, all of Pierceton; Deb Hathaway and Brian Wilson, both of Warsaw; Vickie and Dan Gackstetter, Minnesota; and Frederick and Angie Hathaway, North Manchester; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence Slone; and a sister, Virginia Howard.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Dave Cripe officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Calling is from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
