SYRACUSE - Donald G. "Don" Scearce, 80, of Syracuse, Dewart Lake, died at 10:24 a.m. Dec. 2, 2010, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Danville, Ill., to Charles Glynden "Glenn" and Laurel "Marie" Arnold Scearce. On June 21, 1952, in Syracuse, Dewart Lake, he married Martha L. "Marty" Whitehead, who survives.
He graduated from Marion High School in 1948, and Purdue University in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55, in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He moved to Kosciusko County from Fort Wayne in 1966, and retired in 1997 as owner and operator of Scearce and Associates Inc. (an architectural firm), Warsaw, for 25 years. He formerly worked at General Electric, Fort Wayne, from 1952-66, and DePuy Manufacturing, Warsaw.
He was cub master to 118 boys and served for many years on the executive council of the Anthony Wayne Area Boy Scouts. He was the recipient of the Eagle Scout, Good Scout and Silver Beaver Awards. He was former president of the Baer Field Kiwanis Club, Fort Wayne, and a current member of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club with 41 years of perfect attendance. He served on the Bowen Center and North Webster SPEC Boards and was a recent president of the Dewart Lake Protective Association.
Also surviving are a daughter, Susan (and spouse Stan) Rice, Fort Wayne; a son, Gary (and spouse Vickie), Crown Point; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, North Webster, with Pastor David Smiley officiating. Burial will be private at Salem Cemetery, Milford.
